At the heart of the park are the picturesque remains of a 12th century Cistercian monastery known as Rufford Abbey and a magnificent country house steeped in history and legend, around them lie magnificent gardens, rolling meadows and dense woodland which offer diverse wildlife and the opportunity to enjoy beautiful walks and days out in the countryside. Rufford Park also has an outstanding 18 hole golf course which is a challenge to beginners and experienced players alike. Close to Rufford are Clumber and Thorsby Parks both of which offer more opportunity’s to enjoy spectacular countryside with walks and cycle rides.There are beautiful unspoilt villages in every direction where life rolls on at a much gentler pace, where theres still time for people. Surrounded by breath taking countryside, its so easy to get off the beaten track and explore. Keen fishermen will also find several places to enjoy just a short walk away, the river Trent is also less than five miles away.

Edwinstow is a pleasant village just two miles from the park, Robin Hood and Maid Marion are said to have been married there in St. Mary’s church. Newark on Trent is a delightful market town steeped in History, Newark Castle was built in the 12th century and is said to have the finest gatehouse in England, an international antiques fair meets there several times a year and is one of the largest in Europe. Doncaster is renowned for its fish market, both for quality and diversity and not to forget the famous racecourse. The newly built Robin Hood international airport is also conveniently close to the park, flights leave to destinations across Europe daily.
